Aims and Objectives of Himpunan Wastraprema
General Objectives
Himpunan Wastraprema’s mission is to improve the image and appreciation of the Indonesian traditional textile culture, in order to introduce, promote, generate interest and preserve the textile heritage for the next generation. We strongly believe that a great country shows character through its culture, creations, and its respect towards a valuable national heritage.
Practical Objectives
- Develop and promote appreciation as well as disseminating knowledge in the art of woven textiles, batik and heritage textiles through regular or periodical exhibitions, lectures and discussions.
- Collect and document Indonesian woven textiles, batik, and heritage textiles.
- Organizing, wherever possible a group of researchers conducting studies on woven material, batik, and heritage textiles, and provide a clear socio-cultural background for the research object for the compilation and documentation of such studies.
- Generate interest to use or wear Indonesian products in terms of traditional woven material, batik, and heritage textiles at a national and international level.
- Assist with the development and the collection of textiles for the Jakarta Textile Museum.
- Select, record, describe, and label textiles contributed to the Jakarta Textile Museum.
- Conduct exhibitions, lectures, symposia, and cultural excursions to textile centers in order to improve the knowledge of its members.
- Collaborate with other similar textile institutions to improve and preserve Indonesia’s traditional textile heritage.
